Maureen Brazeau’s personal experiences as a young single mother and with the devastating impact of mental illness and addictions have led her to deeply appreciate the desperation and discrimination faced by those navigating similar circumstances. She has become a strategic social change agent and advocate for marginalized individuals through her innovative employment and support partnerships with other community agencies and organizations, all while operating a successful reuse and recycling facility that diverts nearly 300 tonnes of textiles alone from the landfill each year. In 2018, Brazeau’s operation donated close to $200,000 to other impactful community programs, projects and events.
