Native Community Care – Mental Health, 1992
Assistant Professor, School of Social Work, McMaster University
Bonnie Freeman has had a long career in the health and well-being of Indigenous communities, which is built on the foundation of an innovative college program. As a professor at McMaster University, Freeman is undertaking cutting-edge academic research and contributing with extensive community service. Her participatory research studies use an Indigenous methodological perspective of journeying, with a key goal of understanding how Indigenous knowledge and connection to land and water contribute to positive health and well-being, as well as looking at reconciliation through the alliance building of a canoe journey between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and communities.
