Long before #MeToo became a trending hashtag, Andrea Beneteau was forging a path for female firefighters trying to make their way in a man’s world. She was the first woman hired by the Markham Fire and Emergency Services in 1996 and the first promoted to captain in 2008. Beneteau’s passion for helping girls and women realize their potential in male-dominated spaces extends to her work as a professional basketball referee. She is a popular mentor and motivational speaker, with more than 50 career days and countless community speaking engagements to her credit.
